SCRIPT13:20-14:00 Vision
The Caritas mission to serve the deprived. Not just material support, but train them to make a living and serve the community. To encourage to help others…help less fortunate then themselves.
14:23-15:00
The basic thing was, we don’t have computers. The basic need was that only the rich had computers. Lucky to have those concerned and help us to get it. We had positive experience …using refurbished computers in our office. We want those that don’t have computer to be like us – with access. We enjoy the process of making computers to donate to others.
15:25-17:22
The children often tell me … after last week, I could not sleep. These kinds of reactions encourage me to do more and more. I like to the young people. They don’t have any motivation, but when they donate to young kids, the recipient appreciate. Big brother you’re very kind to help. This…encourages us. The most driving force for us to help the deprived people…hopeful and happy.
19:41-21:00
The program starts about 10 years ago. The first phase, received donations from universities. Donate them to the deprived people. By that time, we received some money from Joecky club to …quite small scale. The second phase, we …trained 300 young people. They give us about one million a year…we began to expand the program. Third phase, EPD sponsored about one million a year…collect more and more computers.
36:10-37:34 An example of the process.
When HKU calls us we’ll arrange a certain time and arrange …collect them. Bring them to Kowloon Bay….record. First is to inspect for usable and non-usable. …. That is the process.
39:12-39:44 How many computer do you recycle/refurbish each year?
When we have more money, we produce more. … We have no problem of collecting. The only limitation is our money. (cut) Last year we produced 7,500. That would be around our maximum capacity.
40:25-40:30
If you give me enough resources, we can produce 10,000.
40:40-41:23
We have been contributing a little bit to reduce dumping. But we have not …we should have done better. All we have done is below 5% what is being dumped. There’s a lot to be done to reduce dumping. We are more happy with the social value side, helping the poor rather than the environmental. We are doing so little.
